Red fox

Conservation status: least concern
British settlers brought the red fox to Australia in the late 1800s. They now number approximately 1.7 million across mainland Australia. The red fox is an invasive species threatening native wildlife. Foxes travel over large areas and often scavenge dead birds: this behaviour can unfortunatley spread avian influenza across long distances.
